Robin of Sherwood from Microgaming: Slot Review - take what's yours!

Join Robin Hood and his bunch of merry men as he plots to take down the Sheriff once and for all.

Get ready to steal from the rich to give to the poor when you play this latest release from software provider Rabcat Gambling in association with Microgaming. This game transports players back to a time when England’s most famous outlaw Robin Hood pitted his wits against the Sheriff of Nottingham. Robin Hood hails from a place called Sherwood and was said to be the most skilled archer in all of the land as well as a dab hand with a sword. To help him defeat the Sheriff, he was accompanied by his merry men who consisted of Little John (who is not so little!) and Friar Tuck as well as the beautiful Maid Marian. Together they would rebel against the Sheriff and Prince John to stand up for the fair people of Nottingham. So sharpen up your arrows and prepare to take aim as we join Robin Hood as he enters a special archery tournament held by the devious Sheriff who hopes to finally capture him and put an end to this rebellion. Who will win? It all depends on where your arrows land!

Robin of Sherwood is a 5 reel slot with 243 ways to win that comes with Free Spins, a Wild Turning feature, and a Gamble Mode.

Special Features

The game features a massive 243 ways to win where wins are formed when you land at least 3 matching symbols on a single way. With a plethora of ways to form winning combinations, you will be stealing from the rich in the blink of an eye!

The Wild symbol in this slot is represented by an image of 3 arrows and its main job is to substitute for all other symbols except for the Scatter symbol to help form winning combos. If you are lucky enough to land 5 of these symbols on the reels then you will bag yourself a fine payout worth a hefty 50X your total bet.

The Turning Wilds feature is a random bonus event that can occur on each spin in the main game. Once triggered, low-value symbols such as A, J, K, and Q are transformed into Wild symbols to further enhance your chances of landing a big win on the reels.

The Free Spins bonus game is triggered when you land 3 Scatters anywhere on the reels. The Scatter symbol is denoted by an image of an archery target board. In this excellent mini-game, you are awarded 10 Free Spins and on every 2nd spin, Robin Hood will shoot a low-value symbol (J, K, Q, A) to remove them from the reels. This is called the Royal Clearing feature. By the end of Free Spins, you will be left with only high-value symbols on the reels which guarantees a big cash payout if you land a winning combination on your final Free Spin.

The final feature to discuss is the optional Gamble mode. This triggers whenever you land a winning spin and involves choosing to shoot a green or red target board. If the arrow hits the target then you will double your win but if it misses then you will lose all your current winnings and be taken back to the main game. It is possible to gamble up to 5 times in a row in this feature.

Theme and Graphics

The presentation of the game is top-drawer and features some of the best 3D graphics and animations you are ever likely to come across in an online slot. The game takes place in Sherwood forest which is full of different coloured trees with a castle looming in the background complete with a clear bright blue sky overhead. Symbols are beautifully designed and rendered onscreen and consist of Robin Hood, Little John, Friar Tuck, Maid Marian, the Sheriff, and the standard A – J icons. The animations are absolutely outstanding as symbols burst into life when part of a winning combination. For example, Friar Tuck will drink some ale whereas Maid Marian will slowly throw a punch. The Free Spins game is a definite highlight as you get to see Robin Hood at his finest as he hits targets with ease and even sends the Sheriff tumbling off his seat after clearing all the low-value symbols!

The music is medieval-like and full of loud drum effects and slow guitar strums. It really adds to the gameplay and ties in perfectly with the theme of the slot.

The game features 243 ways to win, a respectable RTP of 95.86%, and a superb top prize of 12,150 coins.

Our Verdict on Robin of Sherwood

Robin of Sherwood is produced by Rabcat Gambling and published by Microgaming. First and foremost, it has to be said that this game is an excellent interpretation of the notorious outlaw of Nottingham who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. This slot is visually stunning to look at and even better to play and comes with a captivating soundtrack as well as a great range of bonus features to keep players spinning those reels for hours on end. The Turning Wilds feature was quite difficult to trigger but can offer a decent payout considering it transforms low-value symbols into Wilds. The Free Spins feature, on the other hand, triggered quite frequently and is highly entertaining to play and more importantly can be very rewarding as Robin Hood shoots away low-value symbols on every second Free Spin to really increase your chances of landing a massive windfall. The only downside of this feature is that it’s not possible to retrigger more Free Spins. In terms of variance, I found this slot to be Medium which means you won’t be waiting too long until you land a nice cash payout on the reels.
