Roulette is one of the most popular casino games around and did you know the word actually means “little wheel” in French? You learn something new every day as they say! The idea of this game is to place some bets on either a single number or a range of numbers then a dealer will spin a wheel and if the ball lands on the number you placed a bet on then you win. Players choose from numbers ranging from 0 to 36 and it is possible to place bets in a variety of ways such as numbers, colours and even if the number is odd or even.

In number ranges from 1 to 10 and 19 to 28, odd numbers are usually red and even numbers are black. From 11 to 18 and 29 to 36, the odd numbers are black for a change and the even numbers are red. The number 0 (zero) is usually green and this is known as the European style. In America, there is usually an additional green pocket displayed as 00 (two zeroes) and the wheel is placed at one end. French style roulette tables have the wheel in the centre and the betting layout on either side of it.

There is a whole host of ways of placing bets in Roulette and that is the main attraction of this game as if one betting pattern is not working for you, then you have a lot of options to choose from when you place your next bet. For starters, you can choose from inside and outside bets. Inside bets provide a small chance of winning but the payout will be quite large whereas Outside bets provide a better chance of winning but will give you a much lower payout. Inside bets include straight-up, street, split, corner, six line, trio, basket, and top line. The “Straight-up” inside bet provides the best odds for winning and it involves betting on a single number. “Split” bets involve placing bets on two numbers together e.g. 20 and 21. “Street” bets involve placing bets on three numbers in a single horizontal line such as 22/23/25. “Trio” bets require you to place a bet on either 0/1/2 or 00/2/3. The “Corner” bet involves betting on four different numbers that are in a square layout like 25/26/28/29. “Basket” bets involve betting on 0/1/2/3 and “Top Line” bets are for the numbers 0/00/1/2/3. Outside bets are more about betting on certain areas of the Roulette wheel such as 1 to 18, 19 to 36, red or black, even or odd, dozen bets, and column bets.

There are different number series in Roulette that have special names and they each cover a section of the wheel. These are called “French bets” as they are commonly referred to by their French meaning. These bets are known as the following:

  • Voisins du Zéro (Neighbours of Zero). The number series for this bet is 22-18-29-7-28-12-35-3-26-0-32-15-19-4-21-2-25.
  • Jeu Zéro (Zero Game). The number series for this bet is 12-35-3-26-0-32-15.
  • Le tiers du Cylindre (Third of the Wheel). The number series for this bet is 27-13-36-11-30-8-23-10-5-24-16-33.
  • Orphelins (Orphans). The number series for this bet is 17-34-6 and 1-20-14-31-9.
  • Finale (Final). The number series for this bet is 4, 14, 24 and 34 if the bet is a final 4 bet.
