PokerStars are bringing Megastacks Tournaments to New Jersey

2017-08-10 07:46:33

PokerStars is the internet’s largest provider of online poker controlling an estimated two-thirds of the world’s online poker market. The company delivers an immersive and engaging poker experience to over 15,000 daily players playing real cash money. PokerStars also hosts the two largest online poker tournaments the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). PokerStars latest tournament offering is Megastack, a new live tournament series that after a successful debut in Europe is now making the trip stateside to New Jersey.

The Megastack is Going Global

The PokerStars’ Megastack series was launched in April at the Hippodrome Casino in London. The event attracted 526 players, twice the average attendance of other PokerStars tournaments, and proved to be very successful. The tournament was targeted at recreational players aiming to provide casual poker players with the chance to experience a pro-level tournament action for small stakes. The event promised “PokerStars Champion-like” structures at a “fraction of the cost”. There were three different tables with three different buy-ins; £100 for the Hold’em – Cheap and Deep, £150 for PokerStars Megastack and £400 for the PokerStars Megastack High Roller. Another PokerStars Megastack tournament is set to take place at the Hippodrome Casino this October from the 20th to the 22nd.

The live tournament series is now also headed to the States for a 3-day event at the Resorts Casino Hotel in New Jersey from October 6th to 8th. The inaugural US Megastack will debut with the $220 Sunday Special Live, the name is a nod to PokerStars New Jersey’s very popular $50,000 Sunday Special tournament. Players will start with 50,000 chips and play 30-minute levels on day 1 and 40-minute levels on days 2 and 3. The US Megastack has a guaranteed prize pool of $100,00 with 50,000 being reserved for the Sunday Special Live event. Players will be able to qualify for the series through satellite tournaments on PokerStars NJ with buy-ins of as low as $0.50.

Gambling in The Garden State

PokerStars launched its New Jersey operation, PokerStars NJ, in March 2016. New Jersey’s gambling laws are some of the least restrictive in the United States making the Garden State an ideal hub for many online and real-world casinos. The competition for supremacy is fierce, PokerStars are directly competing against a number of industry heavyweights such as the popular 888Poker. PokerStars hopes that events such as the US Megastack series will give them the edge over their competition by bringing more live action poker players into the online world. The event is designed to suit players of all levels who want to experience an exceptional real-world poker tournament and practice their skills without spending a small fortune.

Announcing the US Megastack series Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker gave players an idea of what to expect from the series; “PokerStars Megastack is the perfect opportunity for players to enjoy a great live poker experience at an affordable buy-in to see if they can turn a MEGASTACK into a mega prize. Players can expect an awesome poker experience and more importantly get together with friends to play poker while having fun.”
