Luxurious Reception

During the reception, guests basked in the warm sunshine, drinks and hors d’oeuvres at the water’s edge before being seated in the Ballroom for the thrilling unveiling of the upcoming season’s events. Arts & Lectures Council Co-chair Rich Janssen shared how last season was amazing but this year is “amazing on steroids.” His Co-chair Kath Lavidge related how when she moved here from London she was worried about the cultural scene, but she is “blown away” by what Arts & Lectures provide.

A fun video produced by Development & Marketing Associate Hector Medina presented a rapid-fire showcase of the season’s highlights, which was met with many gasps and expressions of glee. Executive Director Celesta Billeci gave a short commentary on some of her favourites as the excitement in the room built and staff distributed the new catalogues. Whilst more than 60 events are already confirmed, much more will be added during the season. Billeci had many thank you’s to extend, including a huge one to sponsors and donors. Ticket sales cover only 30 percent of A&L’s costs.

The season commences September 27 with Lila Downs. Highlights of the season include Joe Biden, Bill Murray, Joyce DiDonato, Trevor Noah, Samantha Bee, Lang Lang, Zubin Mehta, and Condoleezza Rice.

About Coral

Gala Coral Group Ltd was a British betting shop, bingo and casino operator formerly owned by private equity firms Candover Investments, Cinven and Permira. The Group headquarters are in Nottingham (Gala Bingo and Casino), Stratford, London (Coral), and Woking (Gala Coral Remote Gaming). However, in 2011, a decision was made to move substantial parts of the business to Gibraltar, including almost all the remote gaming division. The group, through acquisitions and new developments, had over 30 casinos and 1,800 licensed betting offices.

In July 2015, it was announced that the company would merge with Ladbrokes. In October 2015 it was announced that the group would sell the Gala Bingo business to investment trust Caledonia Investments for £241m.[1] The merger with Ladbrokes was completed in November 2016, forming Ladbrokes Coral plc.

The international division of Gala Coral was formally established on 1 October 2007. The aim of the International division is to develop an integrated multi-brand strategy. The first example of this is Italy with Eurobet retail and eurobet.it.

In Italy, the Group won 403 betting licences in the open market tender in December 2006 under its Eurobet brand. In China, the Group set up a joint venture to launch land-based bingo in China, with bingo being seen as the most appropriate point of entry for the Group.
