Bet365 back New Housing Development in Stoke

2017-07-28 08:33:08

Stoke City Football Club and their principal sponsors, UK online gaming giant Bet365, are backing proposed plans to build 100 new executive homes in Lightwood in Stoke. Bet365 have been the shirt sponsors of the Staffordshire based club since 2012 and in May 2016 became the title sponsors of the club’s stadium. Stoke City currently play in the English Premier League where manager Mark Hughes led the ‘Potters’ to a 13th placed finish last season.

A Community Project

Bet365 take a more active role in the affairs of Stoke City football club than many other club sponsors. Bet365 have always prided themselves on being a business rooted in the Stoke community, the company was founded in Stoke-on-Trent in 2000 and still has its headquarters there today. Bet365 have supported numerous community projects in Stoke, the latest being a new housing development on Greenbelt land in the suburb of Lightwood.

Proposals to build on the land between Lightwood Park and Woodpark Lane were first were submitted last year. Since then the project has been met with a number of setbacks. Over 1,300 letters of objection were lodged and the proposed development was rejected by the Stoke-on-Trent City Council by a vote of 11 to 2. This hasn’t dampened Stoke City’s Chief Executive Tony Scholes’ enthusiasm for the development. He believes that the high-end housing will attract people to the city. “We offered our support to this scheme back when it was submitted previously in 2014 and I can confirm our view has not changed. We wholeheartedly endorse any initiative or scheme that promises to benefit the city of Stoke-on-Trent. We believe that the city would prosper significantly from the development of 100 executive homes at Lightwood.”
