Your soul hangs in the balance in the battle between heaven and hell in this action-packed NetEnt slot.

It’s the age-old tale of good versus evil in this latest release from software giant NetEnt as they invite players to witness an apocalyptic battle between the angels of heaven as they face off against the demonic hordes of hell as the end of days fast approaches. This is the first online slot in NetEnt’s history to actually feature 100 paylines and players can choose to side with either the Archangel or the King of demons in this visually stunning game. All that’s left to do now is to choose a side, lead them to victory on the battlefield, and of course land yourself a nice cash prize for your troubles!

Archangels: Salvation is a 6 reel slot with 100 paylines that includes Stacked Wilds, Free Spins, Hot Spots, and Heaven & Hell features.

Special Features

The first feature to highlight is the ever-present Wild symbol which is represented by a lion’s head with the letter ‘W’ in front of it. This symbol appears as a 2x2 block on the reels and it substitutes for all other symbols apart from the Scatter symbol. It plays a big part in the Hot Spots feature which is outlined below.

The Hot Spots are the first top 2 rows as well as the bottom 2 rows of the reels in this game. Each area triggers its own feature. For example, if a Wild symbol lands full or partially in the top Hot Spot are then you will activate the Heaven feature. Similarly, if a Wild symbol lands in the bottom Hot Spot then you will trigger the Hell feature. When the Heaven feature is activated by a Wild symbol that lands partially in the top Hot Spot then 2 stacks of Wild symbols are created. If the Wild symbol lands fully then 4 stacks of Wild symbols are created. These Wild stacks vary from 3 – 5 symbols in length.

If you trigger the Hell feature with a partial Wild symbol then 8 Wild symbols will randomly appear on the reels. Activate it with a full Wild symbol and you will receive a whopping 16 Wild symbols on the reels. The cool thing about the Heaven or Hell features is that you can retrigger them if a stack of wilds or single Wild symbol lands in one of the Hot Spots again. When this happens, you will receive 1 stack of Wilds or 4 Wilds for doing so.

The Scatter symbol is illustrated by the letter ‘S’ with a purple background. This symbol comes 2-stacked and if you happen to land 3 or more of these symbols anywhere on the reels then you will activate the Free Spins bonus game. It goes without saying, the more Scatters you land then the more Free Spins you shall be awarded. 3, 4, 5 and 6 Scatter symbols award 10, 15, 20, and 25 Free Spins respectively. Unfortunately, you cannot retrigger Free Spins but the Hot Spots areas are increased to 3 rows in this feature to further boost your chances of landing a big payout on the reels.

Theme and Graphics

The graphics are top-notch and you would expect no less from leading software studio NetEnt. The game takes place smackdown in the middle of heaven and hell as the archangel gracefully flutters her wing to the left of the reels while a menacing demon holds a flame sword and fireball in his hand to the right of the reels. Symbols are nicely designed and consist of an Angel, a Demon, a Hood, a Helmet, a Lion, a Skull, and the standard Diamond – Spade icons. The animations are crisp as symbols rotate quickly and sparkle brightly when part of a winning combination. I especially liked how the angel and demon raise their swords as they prepare to clash whenever you land a win on the reels from time to time.

The music is dramatic and of the epic variety with lots of loud drum effects. It complements the battle theme of the game perfectly.

Win lines, Payouts and Jackpots

The game features 100 paylines, a reasonable RTP of 96.08%, and an excellent jackpot prize worth 15,000 coins.

Below is a summary taken from the PayOut Table from the game. The amount won for each combination depends on the value of the bet when you spin the reels.

Our Verdict on Archangels: Salvation

Archangels: Salvation is produced by NetEnt and it’s one action-packed battle between Heaven and Hell. This game features excellent graphics, a thumping soundtrack, and a fantastic range of features to ensure players keep the battle going for as long as possible. The Hot Spots feature is highly original and makes great use of the Wild symbol. It took me a bit of time to trigger Free Spins and although it is disappointing that you cannot retrigger more, it is definitely worth the wait as the Hot Spots increase to 3 rows to help you land even bigger wins. I found this slot to be of medium to high variance so it might take you some time before you eventually a decent enough cash prize on the reels. With a top prize of 15,000 coins on offer, the battle between Heaven and Hell is certainly a profitable one!
